Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for visiting the Foundation
Coalition’s website Active/Cooperative Learning: Best
Practices in Engineering Education. The project is
funded by the National Science Foundation and highlights the
success of Foundation Coalition engineering education reform
activities on multiple campuses.
During the first year of the project, we
were able to provide a solid base of information on why and
how to set up active/cooperative learning classrooms. We are
particularly proud of the fact that the bulk of the
information on this site comes from interviews with 21
engineering faculty on 8 different campuses. Through the
interviews, our faculty offer suggestions for preparing
students for teamwork, developing instructional materials,
and implementing and assessing cooperative learning lessons
and activities. The site also contains content-specific
engineering projects, such as Hot Air Balloons and
Catapulting a Squash Ball.
During the second year of the project, our
emphasis is on increasing the number of content specific
lessons, activities, and projects that we make available
through the site. We would like to ask you to consider being
a contributor. We welcome lessons designed for all levels of
students, from first year through graduate school.
We hope that you and others on your campus
can make use of this resource. You are most welcome to
review the site and send us your comments, even if you
choose not to contribute. Your feedback and participation
will help us to meet our goal of providing the most
comprehensive resource for promoting good practice in
engineering education.
