Although
this entire project has been developed with the idea of
faculty development in mind, this section has been designed
specifically to focus on that very purpose. Once faculty
members are introduced to cooperative and active learning
concepts, they are usually excited by the new possibilities
presented by these classroom practices. However, trying to
implement cooperative and active learning into a curriculum
can seem a little daunting at first. The following six
steps—gleaned from the insights offered by our faculty and
expert contributors—provide a good framework to follow in
taking on this process and will help you to focus more
efficiently on this goal of bringing these practices into
the classroom.
1.
Refer to recommended active/cooperative learning resources.
2.
Attend formal training classes or workshops.
3.
Get support or learn from peers.
4.
Learn and use pre-designed models for lesson plans.
5.
Develop lessons or projects with active/cooperative learning
and teaming in mind.
6.
Be consistent and persistent.
