Dear Colleagues,
 
 The Foundation Coalition is one of eight engineering coalitions funded by the National Science Foundation, as agents of systemic renewal for the engineering educational community. Our partner campuses (Arizona State University, Texas A & M University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, The University of Alabama, The University of Wisconsin Madison, The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth) have restructured their curricula, renovated or built new classrooms, and created faculty development projects guided by research-based principles of good educational practice.
 
 Over the last nine years, the Foundation Coalition has particularly emphasized the use of
 active/cooperative learning strategies. This CD/website is designed to disseminate the experiences of Foundation faculty, as well as others, in active/cooperative learning classrooms. We hope that it provides a resource for other campuses that are engaged in their own efforts to improve their learning environments and curricula.
 
 I deeply appreciate the contributions of all the participants who unselfishly made their ideas and materials available for inclusion in this resource. Their participation in this endeavor has greatly added to the richness and breadth of information contained here.
 I would especially like to thank Susan Ledlow for organizing and managing this project. I got to know Susan many years ago when she was the organizer and presenter of one of the first faculty workshops on cooperative learning in which I was a student. I realized then that she knew her subject well, not only as a theorist but as a practitioner. Her expertise was invaluable in bringing this work to its present state of usefulness. She toiled through endless hours of tedious work, and her attention to detail shows.
 
 If there are improvements or additions that you can suggest, please let us know. We would like to continue to expand the breadth and depth of this resource.
